How to convert JPG to WebP
- Choose one or more JPG files or drag them into the box above.
- FormatOtter converts it to WebP instantly in your browser.
- Download files individually or download the whole batch as a ZIP.
WebP compresses photos more efficiently than JPG at similar visual quality, so converting your JPGs is an easy web-performance win. Conversion happens locally in your browser.
Supported formats
Input: JPG/JPEG images (.jpg, .jpeg). Output: WebP. Note: Safari cannot encode WebP in the browser — use Chrome, Edge, or Firefox for this tool.
Batch input can mix PNG, JPG/JPEG, and WebP files. Every selected image is converted to WebP.
Is this private?
Yes. FormatOtter runs entirely in your browser using the built-in canvas API. Your image is never sent to a server or seen by anyone. To preserve an unfinished queue across refreshes, your browser may keep a local copy on this device until processing succeeds or you clear the queue. You can even load this page and then disconnect from the internet; the tool keeps working.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to WebP reduce quality?
The image is re-encoded, so there is a small additional compression step. At the quality level we use, the difference is not visible for typical photos, and the file usually gets meaningfully smaller.
When should I use WebP instead of JPG?
Use WebP for images served on websites — every modern browser displays it and files are smaller. Stick with JPG when a platform or app you upload to doesn't accept WebP.
